Reasons for the Celebration of Eid in Islam

Muslims celebrate two major Eids every year that distinguish them from others. It is narrated on the authority of Anas Ibn Malik that when Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) came to al-Madinah, the people had two days on which they engaged in games.

He (ﷺ) said: “Allah has substituted for you something better than them: the day of sacrifice and the day of breaking the fast.” [Reported by Abu Dawud and an-Nasa’i].

• Eid al-Fitr: It marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan as Muslims celebrate the breaking of their fast and thank God for completing the worship of fasting and their ability to abstain from the temptations of life throughout the month.
• Eid al-Adha:  also known as “the Feast of Sacrifice,” commemorates the revival of the story of the Prophet Ibrahim when God commanded him to sacrifice his son Ismail to test his faith. It also coincides with the end of Hajj.

Eid Tradition in Islam

Eid in Islam are days of joy and happiness, but The practices of celebrating Eid differ from country to country.

However, some special traditions in Islam are practiced by all Muslims, which aim to enhance social cohesion between them.

The following are the most prominent Eid traditions in Islam:

1. The Eid prayer is performed in congregations in mosques or central squares on the morning of the first day of Eid.
2. Exchanging congratulations and blessings among all Muslims and distributing sweets to everyone.
3. Visiting the graves of relatives and friends and adorning them with flowers and plants.
4. Wear new clothes, especially for children.
5. Families meet together to eat meals, which contributes to strengthening the relations between them.
6. Make children happy by taking them to amusement parks and buying gifts, toys, and sweets.
7. Sacrifice an animal, such as a sheep or a cow, which is specific to Eid al-Adha.
8. Prepare unique desserts like dates, baklava, Barazek, Ghraybeh, and Maamoul.

Eid Gifts for Children

Anas ibn Malik said: “The Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, was the most merciful of people with children.”

Rember that The Messenger Muhammad (ﷺ) was the kindest of people and the most loving of children, and he was calling for mercy and care for them, especially orphans. So All Muslims have to follow his example.

Clothing, Toys and Sweets at Eid

Children eagerly await Eid’s advent to get gifts and sweets and wear new clothes, and they enjoy spending time in the garden and the city of games.

• School bags and stationery.
• Dolls for girls and control cars for boys.
• Outdoor games such as bicycles or scooters.
• Children’s games, such as water guns, balls, etc.

Eid Present Make Difference

Narrated Abu Hurairah, may God be pleased with him: The Prophet (ﷺ) said: “Give gifts to one another, and you will love each other.” [al-Bukhari reported it in al-Adab al-Mufrad].

Giving gifts increases the intimacy and love between people and brings happiness to their hearts, so what if you present this gift to innocent children on Eid days? Make sure that it will make them fly with joy.
